SEND DOC INTO LAKE SPRINGFIELD! Mark Dochterman, director of the UIS Volunteer Center has challenged the Leadership for Life program to raise money for the Special Olympics. If they hit their target, Doc will have to jump into Lake Springfield (in an outfit of their choosing) as a part of the Feb. 23rd Polar Plunge! Of course if you want to actually see him freeze his pants off, you will have to sign up as a volunteer to help run the event. To volunteer contact Brittany Carls (email@example.com). The Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity to support Special Olympics athletesby taking a flying leap ' a leap into the frigid waters of an Illinois lake. All proceeds collected by plungers benefit Special Olympics Illinois athletes. In 2012, more than $1.5 million was raised by more than 6,290 plungers. In 14 years, $7.5 million has been raised by more than 28,300 plungers.
