What is Making the Grade?
Making the Grade Conferencing is a way for the members of the community to reach out to our young people and encourage them to pursue academic excellence. During this day-long event, community volunteers visit the school to meet with students for one-on-one sessions to review their most recent progress report. During a 5-10 minute session with each student, volunteers review the student’s grades and discuss issues such as homework, work ethic, issues in the classroom, and planning for the future. Students then have the opportunity to connect with school representatives, community resources, and college, tech school, and military recruiters.
How can I help?
You can volunteer: Volunteers typically meet with 3-6 students in a half-hour time slot, and can sign up for any number of time slots ranging from half an hour to the entire day. This event takes place at Lanphier High School during normal school hours.
