This free workshop will cover the basics of Abaqus, a suite of software applications for finite element analysis and computer-aided engineering from Dassault Systems. Space in the workshop is limited to the first 40 people to RSVP to Pam Joop at pjoop@ncsa.illinois.edu or (217) 244-0409. Please RSVP by 3 pm CST on Thursday, April 12. Participants must bring their own Windows-equipped laptop computer. Lunch will be provided.

Instructor Seid Koric is an adjunct assistant professor of mechanical science and engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an engineering applications analyst and technical coordinator for NCSA’s Private Sector Program.

The workshop will cover:

  • Abaqus/CAE for pre- and post-processing
  • Absqus/Standard, a general-purpose finite-element analyzer that employs an implicit integration scheme
  • Abaqus/Explicit, a special-purpose finite-element analyzer that employs an explicit integration scheme to solve highly nonlinear systems with many complex contacts under transient loads.

Dr. Koric will also demonstrate running the Abaqus solvers in parallel on NCSA’s iForge high-performance computing system with an NCSA-exclusive batch wrapper script.
