The First International Conference on Space, Time, and CyberGIS (CyberGIS'12) aims to bring together researchers, educators, and practitioners for sharing and synergistically advancing the state of the art of CyberGIS and Space-Time Analysis/Modeling/Synthesis; and to foster international collaboration and cooperation in this area. The CyberInfrastructure and Geospatial Information Laboratory (CIGI: http://cigi.illinois.edu) and National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA: http://ncsa.illinois.edu) will host the conference on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. CIGI researches and develops cutting-edge cyberinfrastructure to advance geospatial sciences and technologies while NCSA has been a world leader in advancing and supporting cyberinfrastructure, and in particular high-performance computing and scientific visualization, for more than 25 years. CyberGIS'12 will provide a forum for sharing cutting-edge research, education and training experiences ranging from new theories, methods, and applications of CyberGIS and Space-Time Analysis/Modeling/Synthesis, to industrial relations and partnerships, and international collaborations. This forum focuses on exploring strategically important roadmaps, and developing tangible action plans for collaborative projects that will enable or enhance major scientific and technological advances for addressing grand geospatial challenges. The CyberGIS conference series is planned to be a biennial event. The first conference will take place during August 6-9, 2012 in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, USA. It is anticipated that this inaugural conference will be highly visible and very fruitful in the midst of exciting time for the future of synergizing cyberinfrastructure, geographic information science, and space-time studies. Multiple federal agencies and industrial partners will participate and/or sponsor the conference. Dr. Daniel E. Atkins who was the first Director of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Office of Cyberinfrastructure and chaired the NSF blue-ribbon advisory panel for the influential cyberinfrastructure report (2003) will give the conference keynote address on the morning of August 8, 2012.
