CU Women in Tech is a bi-monthly informal lunch forum for women working in the technology sector in Champaign-Urbana. Since women are still in the small minority in these fields, this event provides a forum for women working in tech firms locally to get together as a networking group. This would include women working in biotech, engineering, IT, or any type of scientific/technology roles within tech companies in Champaign-Urbana.
Featured speaker: Susan Potter is a lead software and systems engineer at Desk.com, the leading social and mobile customer support help desk. This is one perspective of geek culture in a newly acquired Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) startup with a distributed (remote) engineering team where less than 9% are women. Highlighting technical, business, and cultural realities encountered that non-geeks can appreciate.
Biography: Susan started her career at trading and trading technology firms in London, San Francisco, and Chicago building domain-rich complex software systems. She now works at a leading customer service Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) startup rethinking what reliability, fault tolerance, and high availability mean in a global, always-on, 24/7 world.
Lunch will be served to participants. Please connect with the LinkedIn group as well.
