Teaching That Sticks: Six Principles for Creating Memorable Lessons
“By ‘stick,’ we mean that your ideas are understood and remembered, and have a lasting impact- they change your audience’s (students') opinions or behaviors.” (Heath & Heath, 2007).
We spend hours making decisions on critical concepts and skills for our students to master; we think about the best ways to present those concepts; we plan activities to engage our students. Yet… some of our students just don’t get it. In this session, we will discuss the six principles that Chip and Dan Heath propose in their book Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die” and ways to apply them to our teaching.
