Tracking the Movement and Survival of Intercontinental Migrants Across the Gulf of Mexico
Presented by: Dr. Jill Deppe, Eastern Illinois University

Abstract: Migratory flights of songbirds across ecological barriers are a conspicuous and risky, yet common, feature of avian migration, but critical details of these journeys remain unknown. We deployed automated radio telemetry tracking systems along the Gulf of Mexico to track songbirds from Alabama to the Yucatan Peninsula to gain insight into the behavioural strategies and consequences of migrating across a geographical barrier.
