    GraMS will be hosting a BBQ this Friday, September 20th, in the MEB courtyard from 5:30pm to 7:30pm to celebrate the new semester and to welcome the new graduate students to the department.  Students can access the courtyard by going to the basement of MEB and walking up the wamp between MEB 45 and 49 (the door to the courtyard is on the left).  Family members are also welcome; the more the merrier! In case of rain, they will have a pizza party in the Graduate Lounge, which will be official open for students!  The graduate lounge is located in the basement of MEB, room 29.

    Sheldon Jacobson Professor, Computer Science College of EngineeringSheldon H. Jacobson's research has been reported in the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, and the Boston Globe, editorialized in the New York Times, discussed in Business Week, Forbes, and Kiplinger, and in person on CNBC's Street Signs and The Closing Bell, Washington Post Radio, and The Osgood Files on CBS radio. The author of over 200 journal research articles, book chapters, conference proceeding papers, and professional and editorial papers, Professor Jacobson has been recognized by numerous awards, including the Outstanding IIE Publication Award and the Award for Technical Innovation in Industrial Engineering, both from the Institute of Industrial Engineers, and a Guggenheim Fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. Jacobson’s current research focuses on the application of operations research to problems in policy and public health. He is presently serving as the Program Director for the Operations Research program at the National Science Foundation.
