SUMMARY:ICMT Seminar: "Theory of the Competition Between Spin Density Wa
 ves and d-wave Superconductivity"
CREATED:20090903T150000Z
DESCRIPTION:I will review recent experiments on the cuprate superconducto
rs in the context of a proposed phase diagram as a function of applied m
agnetic field\, temperature\, and hole/electron-doping. The theory of sp
in-fluctuation mediated pairing at large doping must be modified to appl
y in the underdoped regime. The modified theory includes the pocket stru
cture of the Fermi surface and effects associated with the proximity of
the Mott insulator. The theory predicts the competition between spin den
sity wave order and superconductivity\, and I discuss how its quantum cr
iticality is connected with the global cuprate phase diagram.
