DESCRIPTION:What is Lemonade Day?Lemonade Day is an educational program designed to teach youths from kindergarten through 12th grade how to start\, own\, and operate their own business\, a lemonade stand.This nation-wide event teaches kids academic and life skills they need to be successful in the future. Youth learn to set goals\, develop a business plan\, establish a budget\, seek investors\, provide customer service\, and give back to the community.Illinois Lemonade Day Champaign-Urbana is making its grand debut this year! Our goal this year is to register at least 1000 lemonade stands.Community Event Lemonade Day provides an opportunity for families\, businesses\, faith-based and other community organizations\, and schools to come together for a common purpose -- to train the next generation of entrepreneurs through a free\, fun\, engaging\, experiential activity.It's simple! Each youth who registers with a caring adult receives a free backpack that contains a how to Entrepreneur Workbook\, and a Caring Adult Guide. It takes about two weeks to work through the workbook. Each youth sets a financial goal\, finds a $20 investor and negotiates loan terms\, selects a stand location and design\, develops a product\, and costs and purchases ingredients.Everyone will open and run their lemonade stand on May 1st or 2nd\, 2010. May 2nd is the press / official Lemonade Day.Registration opens in late March 2010\, online and in locations throughout Champaign-Urbana.Three contests will be held\, for Best Tasting Lemonade\, Best Lemonade Stand\, and Best Business. Further contest details will be available at registration.Learning Experience The young entrepreneurs keep everything they earn. They are encouraged to open a savings account\, pay back investors and donate a portion of profits to a charity of their choice\, as well as spending some on the goal they set at the beginning.
