SUMMARY:Cultural Intelligence: Implications for the College Classroom
CREATED:20090821T120000Z
DESCRIPTION:We live in a global world. American students travel abroad an
d study in many different countries while international students come fr
om all across the world to study in US universities. While this makes fo
r a rich learning environment\, it can be a challenge for both students
and instructors. Whether you are a domestic instructor with some interna
tional students or an international instructor dealing with typical US u
ndergraduates\, you will need to interact with people who are culturally
different. This workshop is not designed to provide a laundry list of
specific behaviors related to one culture or another\; its aim is to rai
se your awareness of the role culture plays in students' perceptions of
and interactions with others. The goal of this workshop is to help you d
evelop cultural intelligence - a way of thinking and being that can be a
pplied to interactions with students from any number of cultural backgro
 unds.
