SUMMARY:The Atom Chip
CREATED:20090513T100000Z
DESCRIPTION:Central to the advancement of our understanding of quantum ph
ysics and to the development of quantum computers is the quest to devise
ever better ways to poke and prod atoms and photons in our laboratories
. We have developed techniques to manipulate atoms using a chip reminis
cent of a computer circuit board. These atom chips have found great app
lication in strongly coupling single atoms to photons\, in investigating
Bose-Einstein condensates\, and in creating an atom mirror from an ordi
 nary computer hard drive.
