SUMMARY:From Blindness to Sight: The Physics of Vision Restoration
CREATED:20090513T130000Z
DESCRIPTION:Nature and Nature's laws lay hid in night\; God said\, Let Ne
wton be! and all was light (Alexandre Pope)In this lecture\, we will exa
mine the main causes of blindness. We will show how a fundamental unders
tanding of the laws of Physics (before and after Newton) and tools devel
oped based on these fundamental laws have played a central role in the a
ccurate diagnostic and eventual elimination of many forms of blindness.
We will then focus on the remaining challenges and how they are being ad
dressed. Some of the topics we will discuss include near sightedness and
  why glasses actually work\, LASIK\, cataract\, macular degeneration\, a
nd retinal detachment\, as well as artificial vision. Come see for yours
