      1. 12:00 pm - 1:00 pmRebecca Smith is a veterinary epidemiologist focused on using modeling to improve disease control. She received her DVM from Cornell University in 2005, an MS in biosecurity and risk analysis from Kansas State University in 2007, and a PhD in epidemiology from Cornell University in 2011. She joined the faculty of the UIUC College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014, and in 2016 became a Faculty Fellow at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications. Her work, which has been funded by NIH, NSF, and USDA, bridges the fields of biomedical sciences, economics, mathematics, and computer science.

      2. 12:00 pm - 1:00 pmSheldon H. Jacobson is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has a B.Sc. and M.Sc. (both in Mathematics) from McGill University, and a M.S. and Ph.D. (both in Operations Research) from Cornell University. Jacobson has been working on the design and analysis of aviation security systems using operations research models since 1995. He has briefed the Office of Science and Technology Policy (in the executive Office of (former) President George W. Bush) on issues related to the cost and benefit of checked baggage screening strategies. The author of over 160 journal (peer-reviewed) research articles and over 80 book chapters, conference proceeding papers, and professional and editorial papers, he has been recognized by numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. He is a fellow of both IISE and INFORMS. From 2015-2016, he served as the (elected) Treasurer for INFORMS.

      2. 12:00 pm - 1:00 pmArif Masud received Ph.D. in Computational Mechanics from Stanford University in April 1993. He is Professor of Mechanics and Structures in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois, and is affiliated with the Department of Aerospace Engineering, and Computational Science and Engineering. Dr. Masud has made fundamental contributions to the development of Multiscale and Stabilized finite element methods for nonlinear fluid and solid mechanics. He has authored or co-authored over 100 refereed journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters, and is co-editor of the book Finite Element Method: 1970’s and Beyond. He has organized over twenty five International Symposia on Stabilized and Multiscale Finite Element Methods, has served as guest editor seven times for various International Journals, and is currently serving on the Editorial Boards of eight Journals. He is Chair of the Fluid Mechanics Committee of ASME, and past Chair of the Computational Mechanics Committee of ASCE. He served as the General Conference Chair for the ASME Applied Mechanics and Materials Conference (McMAT-2011), and he will be the General Conference Chair for the US National Congress on Computational Mechanics (USNCCM-2021) scheduled to be held in Chicago in 2021. Dr. Masud has served as Associate Editor of the ASME Journal of Applied Mechanics, ASCE Journal of Engineering Mechanics, and ASCE Journal of Nanomecahnics and Micromechanics. He is member-at-large of the Executive Committee of the Applied Mechanics Division of ASME, member-at-large of the Executive Committee of the US Association of Computational Mechanics (USACM), member of the General Council of the International Association of Computational Mechanics (IACM), and Charter Member of the Engineering Mechanics Institute (EMI) of ASCE. He is Associate Fellow of AIAA, and Fellow of USACM, IACM, ASME, EMI, and AAM.
