Helping Dual Language Learners During Early Childhood
In her latest blog, Dr. Bernadette Laumann emphasizes that support for learning both English and the home language at the same time is critical for learning academic subjects. She suggests that teachers and caregivers intentionally plan strategies to facilitate young children’s language development in English while supporting the development of their home language. She also provides IEL resources, including three videos, to help them do so.
New to IEL: Kindergarten Learning Moments
IEL has created kindergarten Tip Sheets for each of the 14 state readiness measures assessed by the Kindergarten Individual Developmental Survey (KIDS). All 14 Tip Sheets are now available in English and Spanish. These graphic Tip Sheets also are useful to preschoolers and their families with helpful suggestions in the areas of math, language and literacy, regulation, and social and emotional development.
You Can Order Tip Sheets by Category
Did you know that you can easily order all Tip Sheets in 10 different categories through our online custom Tip Sheet order form? Among the categories is “Science, Engineering, Technology, & Media,” which has popular Tip Sheets such as Fun at Home with Preschoolers: Let’s Measure! as well as our Get Growing, Natural Illinois, Playground Physics, and Say Yes to the Mess! series.
