Summer 2017 and Academic Year 17-18 FLAS Fellowships (Application Deadline February 3)
FLAS Fellowships support graduate and undergraduate study in modern foreign languages in combination with area studies, international studies, or international or area aspects of professional studies.
Academic Year FLAS
- Graduate students: may receive full tuition and fee waiver and a stipend of $15,000 payable over the academic year. Eligibility for tuition waiver varies by home department and school.
- Undergraduate students: may receive $10,000 towards tuition and fees to study at the University of Illinois and a stipend of $5,000.
- Graduate and undergraduate students: The awards carry a stipend of $2,500 plus tuition and fees of $5,000 to study a language.
Title VIII Fellowships for Study in the Summer Language Workshop at Indiana University (Application Deadline February 3)
Competitively awarded Title VIII Fellowships are available through the Summer Language Workshop to U.S. graduate students, area specialists, and scholars to pursue their language and culture studies in Workshop languages including Azerbaijani, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Estonian, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Mongolian, Russian, and Ukrainian in summer 2017

The Global Studies major fosters respect for diverse ways of living and commitment to sustainability through coursework, advanced language acquisition and study abroad. The competencies established through the major prepare students for careers in business, communications, education, immigration, international affairs, law, public health and sustainable development.
L.A.S. Global Studies Information sessions for Minor In Global Markets And Society, Certificate In International Development, and Certificate In Global Health
The Minor in Global Markets & Society teaches about interdependent relationship between businesses, governments & individuals. You will study topics such as corporate social responsibility, fair trade, global supply chains, and sustainable business practices, among others.
The Certificate in International Development is ideal for students interested in careers in development & poverty reduction. You will complete courses on development theory and poverty interventions.
The Certificate in Global Health is ideal for students interested in health professions. You will study courses on global provision and global health interventions.
Onassis International Scholarships For Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, Economics And Finance In Greece 2017/2018 (Application Deadline February 28)
In 1995 the Foundation established an annual program of grants and scholarships for research, study and artistic endeavour within Greece. The educational program is intended exclusively for non-Greeks: members of national academies, university professors of all levels, PhD holders, post-doctorate researchers and doctoral candidates. Exceptionally and on a case-by-case basis, the program may accept Greeks of the Diaspora, second generation Greeks, and Greeks who permanently reside abroad and have been studying or have been employed in foreign Universities for over 10 or 15 years, depending on the type of scholarship.
Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowships: Now Accepting Applications
The Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) Fellowship Program provides opportunities to doctoral candidates to engage in full-time dissertation research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies. The program is designed to deepen research knowledge of languages and cultures not generally included in U.S. curricula. More broadly, Fulbright-Hays programs aim to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through educational and cultural exchange.

1. Abstract (no more than 250 words), 12 point, Times New Roman, double-spaced
2. Submit as Word or PDF document, in MLA, APA, Harvard, or Chicago style
3. Submissions can come from any discipline as long as they tie in to the themes of ‘Governing Globalization’
5. The following must be included with the submission: Name, Major, Year, Phone Number, Illinois Email Address, Title of paper/poster, Name and contact of supervising Faculty

Women’s and Gender History Symposium - Call for Papers (Deadline: January 27)
The 17th annual Women’s and Gender History Symposium at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign seeks graduate papers that foreground histories of women, gender, and/or sexuality that pay particular attention to migration and movement broadly defined.
We encourage submissions focusing on non-Western and indigenous areas, or on pre-modern periods, along with those that employ interdisciplinary approaches and tools. Papers that engage with space and place studies, disability studies, and/or postcolonial studies are also encouraged. First time presenters and/or MA students are highly welcomed as well.
