 Outdoor Warning Sirens

Have you heard that loud siren the first Tuesday every month?

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency conducts a Siren Test at 10:00am each month.

The Alert is a single tone signifying an emergency. This could be an emergency or disaster due to severe weather (tornado, earthquake, biological/chemical/hazardous material etc).

The Attack is  an up-and-down, rising and falling tone to signify a homeland security or attack emergency. This signal would be used if the community officials were notifed by federal and/or state government officials of impending attack.

  •    Click to listen to Attack.

According to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency website if you hear the siren and it is not a monthly test the you should

  • seek shelter;
  • tune in to radio or television to get information about
    • type of emergency
    • instructions and recommendations
  • listen to your local media for indications that the emergency is over.
