RSO & On-Campus Opportunities
The Illini Gadget Garage is looking for volunteers from diverse backgrounds who are interested in sustainable practices regarding electronics and technology. Volunteers would help assist community members, help run Pop-Up Clinics, perform marketing operations, foster environmental education, and more. Volunteers do not need to have experience with device repair. We have flexible hours throughout the summmer session; no weekends. EIF will hold Mobile Markets every Tuesday in May at the Eastern Illinois Foodbank. Volunteers are needed to help set up the area, help clients “shop” and clean up at the end of the distribution. Volunteers are needed every Tuesday from 3:30-6:15pm.This volunteer project requires volunteers to lift, bend and stand during distribution preparation and throughout the distribution period. Over 3000 students from across Illinois will compete at the State Finals of the ICTM high school math contest. We need volunteers for ushering, proctoring, grading, data entry, setting up awards, assisting the directors, clean up, etc. No special skills are needed, and most jobs are short. The Johnsonville Brat Truck will be making its return to Champaign on Tuesday, May 9 from 3-7pm. Volunteers are needed to sell brats, chips and sodas to benefit EIF. Every $2 meal will help provide 10 meals to our neighbors in need. Click here to sign up to volunteer!
Sewing Fun at Stratton Elementary School - May 10
Do you have sewing experience and love to work with kids? On Wednesday, May 10, the Stratton Sewing Club teaches 5th graders to make their own clothes with sewing machines! Volunteers are needed to help out with cutting, pinning, and general questions. Even though the basics will be very helpful, if you have the enthusiasm to learn you are welcome! EIF will be participating in the National Association of Letter Carrier's Food Drive on May 13. Last year, over 30,000 pounds of non-perishable food was donated to the Foodbank through this drive. We need your help to sort and repack product for our agencies to distribute to our neighbors in need. Great news for families with younger children- these repacks are open to volunteers 8 years old and older. Sign up here to volunteer on Wednesday, May 31 from 3:30-5:30pm and 5:30-7:30pm.
Dump and Run keeps six semi-trailers worth of unwanted goods out of Champaign-Urbana’s dumpsters and landfills each year. This project reduces litter and consumer waste, saves space in landfills, lowers dumping costs for certified housing and apartments, and provides inexpensive items for folks to purchase in the fall. The Leal PTA needs you to make Fun Fair 2017 a wild success on May 12th from 5:15-7:30 pm! We are asking for 45 minutes to be ticket sellers, booth/game volunteers, Taste of Leal volunteers, and to help with set up, & take down. You are welcome to volunteer for multiple shifts.
Urbana High School Track Meet - April 6 to May 15
Have a great time volunteering as a Urbana High School Track Meet Volunteer. With a quick on site training, you'll be ready to use a stopwatch to time individual racers. Watch great high school athletes, meet fellow volunteers and support the local community. A range of fun volunteer opportunities to support UHS sports are available year round. The Society for the Advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) collaborates with the Dual-Language Program of Leal Elementary School to host an outreach program called Cena y Ciencias (Supper and Science). We are looking for volunteers (undergraduate and graduate) who are passionate about teaching science, are interested in serving the community, and can speak Spanish fluently. Red Nose Day is a fundraising campaign run by the non-profit organization Comic Relief Inc. that provides funds to charities committed to helping end child poverty. All profits from the purchase of a Red Nose or other Red Nose Day merchandise are donated to the Red Nose Day Fund, as well as 100% of any cash donations. For over 15 years, ProCamps has partnered with some of the best professional sports to give campers around the country a once in a lifetime sports experience with their favorite players and coaches. This will be a fundamental instruction youth baseball camp open to boys and girls in grades 1-8, and our goal is to provide campers, parents, and sponsors with a first class experience.
