Nonacademic Interview Strategies for Graduate Students & Postdocs

What are interviews like for jobs in industry and nonprofits? What are interviewers looking for? What kinds of questions will they ask? What’s the difference between a behavioral interview and a case interview? What do I wear? In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn the basics of the non-academic interview process and get answers to these questions. You’ll also have a chance to practice answering interview questions and get feedback to help you improve. This workshop is sponsored by Graduate College Career and Professional Development.

Deadlines, documents, contacts, references, institution research—there’s so much to keep track of when you’re job-hunting, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. In this workshop, we will discuss concrete strategies for managing information and staying organized on the job market. We’ll look at different approaches to staying organized, and you’ll leave with a plan that best suits your needs. This workshop is for those pursuing faculty careers, non-academic careers, or both. Writers Workshop Friday Write-a-Thon

Want to meet your writing goals in a distraction-free setting? Join your colleagues from across the disciplines to re-energize your writing practices at The Writers Workshop's Friday Write-A-Thons. Stay for as long as you'd like or join later in the day to work on your thesis, dissertation, article, manuscript, seminar paper, etc. This is a productivity writing group, whose main purpose is to provide structure and community for work that can sometimes feel structureless and isolating. Coffee and light snacks are provided, lunch is on your own. The final summer date for this event is 8/4.

 

LabVIEW Training and CLAD Certification

WebStore and National Instruments (NI) invites you to attend the upcoming NI LabVIEW Boot Camp. Whether you’re new to programming with LabVIEW or looking to improve your existing skills, this hands-on course introduces you to graphical programming with LabVIEW system design software. You’ll learn fundamental skills as well as take the Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD) exam, a globally recognized entry-level certification exam. The course takes place August 14-18 in the Digital Computing Laboratory. The $30 registration fee includes attendance, a PDF manual, software, and exam. Learn more or register online.

Volunteers Sought for Intensive English Institute

The Intensive English Institute is looking for volunteers who would be interested in being conversation partners for international civil and environmental engineering students in the month of August. Back to School Supply Drive

Drop off Location: Native American House, 1206 West Nevada Street, Urbana

Join the Native American House for their annual community service project which will help American Indian students in Chicago start school the right way by being prepared with school supplies! Donations of pen cases, rules, wide-ruled notebooks, glue sticks, #2 pencils, colored pencils, pencil sharpeners, 3-ring folders, pens, and backpacks are particularly needed.
