Constructing Solidarities Symposium: Ethics, Politics and the Challenges of Crossing the “Boundaries”

This symposium engages transnational activists, artists and academics in a dialogue to share their experiences and thoughts constructing a new, more humane politics of belonging and solidarities. Please join us for the opening panel by activists from Chicagoland, Champaign, and Cape Town on Saturday, September 9 and for daylong discussions on Sunday, September 10.

27th Annual Mortenson Distinguished Lecture with Viet Thanh Nguyen

The 27th Annual Mortenson Distinguished Lecture presents “Enduring Wars in Transpacific Memories” by Viet Thanh Nguyen, scholar and author of Pulitzer Prize Winner, The Sympathizer. Nguyen’s work engages dialogue on what it means to be national, ethnic, multicultural, foreign, international, diaspora, and transnational. The Lecture will explore the conflicts and trauma brought about by war, forced migration, and the subsequent resettlement and integration of refugees in a new homeland and the memories that ensue.
