CGS Brownbag Series - Networking and External Relations: The European Union Approach to Foreign Policy

Weds, Oct 25  |  12:00-1:00 pm
Main Library, Room 106
Export to Outlook or iCal

Speaker: Kostas Kourtikakis, Teaching Associate Professor, Political Science, University of Illinois

A unique element of the European Union’s foreign policy is the creation of civil society networks that connect organizations from EU countries with similar organizations in other countries around the world. The objective of these networks is to strengthen relations between the EU and its international partners through the exchange of policies, ideas and norms. This talk examines the data collection process used to create network maps and assess network properties, and how we can use social network analysis to understand how these networks operate and their impact in foreign policy.

Organized by Center for Global Studies as part of their Brown Bag Series- The Digital Nexus: The Promise and Perils of "Big Data" and Global Informatics. Co-sponsored by the European Union Center.
