In 2017, it felt like the global media picked up all of the problems, and none of the solutions. Quartz has identified 99 of the best stories from this year that you probably missed. If you’re feeling despair about the fate of humanity in the 21st century, you might want to reconsider. To note a few, the list includes: Cancer deaths have dropped by 25% in the US since 1991, World Health Organization’s effective new vaccine to end cholera, China’s $100B investment to treat and prevent water pollution, 1 billion trees planted in one Pakistani province, Rwanda’s life expectancy increase to age 64 from age 49 in 2000, and much more.
