Student Spotlight - Intern Edition

MEP students have returned after a productive summer.  Some have shared descriptions of their intern experiences:

"My greatest takeaway was immersing myself in the company culture and seeing how it fits with my own values." - Freddy Villaverde, Alcoa, Inc.

" I learned about Customer Supply Chain functions." - Terrance Phillips, SC Johnson

"I explored a new practice and utilize business skills from my [Technology and Management] minor." - Nicholas Rivera, Accenture

"I learnt survey techniques and got to speak Turkish." - Joseph Akyeampong, Artusa Do─čal Afet Çözümleri

"I learned that Civil Engineering can be a very hands-on experience." Armando Sanchez, Crawford, Murphy, & Tilly, Inc.

Clearly, our students do some great things, and some were able to take their skills to other countries and apply them in other languages. Never hesitate to reach out to these students or to us for assistance with your professional aspirations.

MEP Welcome Back Review

MEP welcomed back students with food, conversation, and community on Wednesday, August 27th in 1310 DCL. It was great to see that every seat was filled, leaving standing room only. Hopefully, this level of engagement is a sign of great things to come this year!

The meeting highlighted the purpose of the MEP, some statistics regarding underrepresented student enrollment, opportunities for academic success, and experiences from MEP students who had completed internships. With a new academic year on the horizon, be sure to give your very best to your Illinois experience!

3rd Annual Early Move-In Program - EMBARK

There have been big changes for the summer programs at Illinois. MEP supported student participation in the Summer Scholars program and was happy to see a strong showing of highly talented and diverse students on campus this summer.

The Illinois Connections in Engineering (ICE) program and the EMBARK program have been combined to provide an opportunity for MEP students to move in early and get ready for their first semester. In addition students met other students and faculty, got introduced to professional etiquette, and participated in an intense design project.
