FREE flu shots are now availble to U of I students at Flu Clinics all over campus, including two PCH locations:
Additionally, shots are also available Mondays-Fridays from 10am-4:30pm @ McKinley Health Center. Please note that a University of Illinois ID card must be presented at the time of service. Visit the McKinley Website for updated information, or check out the Flu Clinic Events Calendar to find additional days/ locations where you can receive the shots on campus. McKinley Health Center encourages all students to get their flu shot.
ILLINI VOLLEYBALL #9 in NATION
The #9 Fighting Illini Women's Volleyball Team is off to a great start, opening the 2015 season undefeated in BigTen play!
Come see @IlliniVBall at Huff Hall on Friday, October 9th at 7pm, and cheer them on as they take on the #1 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. Season tickets are already sold out, but students can still buy tickets online or purchase them at Huff Hall one hour prior to the match. Check out the Illini Volleyball complete 2015 schedule.
Newman Hall will be hosting a Blood Drive on Monday, October 26th from 12pm-4pm. All PCH Residents are invited to come and donate blood at the event, walk-ins welcome!

Staying Healthy in the Cold
McKinley Health Center
Being physically active is important all year round, it helps relieve stress and keeps you healthy. It is easy to embrace getting outside in the warm sunny weather, but when the cold starts to set in the weather becomes an easy excuse to stay inside and “hibernate”. So how can we stay comfortable, warm and active in the cold? Clothing is key! During the colder time of year, it’s all about layering and combining the right type of materials.
The layer closest to your skin should be made out of some type of “wicking” material. This will help keep your skin dry, especially if you are an individual who tends to sweat more with increased movement. The second layer should be some type of material that will insulate to help with warmth. This layer should be made of natural fibers such as wool. The final or top layer should be a shell that protects you from wind, rain, and snow, and have a reflective element to keep you visible and safe. This layer should be waterproof or water resistant. Layering like this allows you to remove layers when you are warm and add layers when you a cold.
So now you know how to stay warm and dry in the colder weather, there are no excuses left to stay inside! Get out and enjoy nature during the colder months, perhaps explore some of the local parks – Allerton Park, Lake of the Woods, or Meadowbrook Park.
PS – Don’t forget your hats, scarves, gloves, and boots – adding these can make all the difference in the world!
Want to pick some pumpkins? Hop on a hayride with some friends? There are lots of great places around the area with fun Fall activities and events! At Curtis Orchard in Champaign, you can pick your own pumpkin, get lost in a corn maze, hitch a ride on a wagon, and choose from over 30 varieties of apples in their orchard. You will also find a petting zoo, live entertainment, as well as their own Bakery & Country store- you might want to try an apple donut! Take a trip down to Arthur, IL to the Great Pumpkin Patch to find more pumpkins, along with mazes, wagon rides, haunted barn, a Wall O' Squash, and a Giant Pumpkin Tree.
