Requesting illinois.edu domain names

Units that already own a uiuc.edu domain name will automatically receive the illinois.edu version. For example, Public Affairs owns publicaffairs.uiuc.edu. They are automatically granted publicaffairs.illinois.edu.

Early Adopters

The project is targeting November 1, 2008 as the date when requests for the new illinois.edu domain can be made by the general campus community. However, it is recognized that some departments may have a business need to obtain a new domain name prior to that date. The following are the criteria under which early adoption will be granted:

• Complete re-design of a Web site not already built or in production (e.g. mechse.illinois.edu)

• New application, service or infrastructure (e.g. beckman.illinois.edu)

• New marketing materials that are expected to have a long shelf life (e.g. College of Media)

• New long-term research effort or grant (e.g. upcrc.illinois.edu)
