CGS Welcomes New Associate Director, Elly Hanauer

The Center for Global Studies is pleased to welcome Elizabeth (Elly) Hanauer as the new Associate Director. Prior to coming to the University of Illinois, Elly worked as a Program Officer at the Institute of International Education where she managed government, corporate, and foundation-sponsored international scholarship, development and exchange programs. More recently Elly was Administrative Director of New York University’s Multinational Institute of American Studies where she ran two U.S. Department of State summer institutes for visiting scholars from around the world.

Elly holds a B.A. in French from Wellesley College and a M.A. in French from Middlebury College in France. She is finishing her PhD in International Education at NYU where her dissertation research focuses on how the topic of immigration is addressed in French secondary history education. As part of her research on recent trends in the internationalization of higher education, she co-authored an article on the growth of offshore campuses in the Middle East. In addition to three years studying and conducting research in France, Elly has worked in Hungary and Italy; she speaks fluent French and has studied Spanish, Arabic, and Hindi.
