To deepen their understanding of Muslim societies, nine journalism students from the University of Illinois are reporting from Turkey under the direction of Professor Nancy Benson and with the advice of the IHT’s Susanne Fowler.

The first story, an interview with Ahmet Sik, a Turkish journalist and author recently released from prison, was filed from Istanbul by Latifah Al-Hazza. http://rendezvous.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/05/21/released-journalist-denounces-turkish-repression/

The second story, posted today from Antioch, Turkey, was written by Tuli Taiwa about her experience as a black woman in Turkey: http://rendezvous.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/05/29/a-black-student-journalist-discovers-that-in-turkey-her-color-is-the-story/?hpw.
