Armed Robbery

On January 03, 2010, University of Illinois Police arrested Kristopher Grant, 18 years old of Champaign, at 8:29 p.m. at Third and Chalmers streets on charges of aggravated robbery.  Grant was apprehended after officers focusing their patrols on the recent robberies made an investigative stop of the vehicle in which Grant and others were riding.  Subsequent investigative efforts produced evidence and/or statements leading to Grant’s arrest for this crime.

The University of Illinois Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred on December 18, 2009 at approximately 11:05 pm near 1402 W. Gregory Drive in Urbana by the Undergraduate Library. (map)

The victim was walking westbound on Gregory Drive near the Undergraduate Library when a person walked up behind him and told him he had a gun.  The offender, who had a low voice, told the victim to keep walking and to empty his pockets.  The victim complied with the offender’s request, emptying his pockets as they continued to walk westbound on Gregory Drive.  After the victim emptied his pockets, the offender told him to start running which he did without further incident.

Prior to the incident, the victim observed a dark colored, medium sized four door vehicle parked in front of Mumford Hall near the Undergraduate Library.  The University of Illinois Police Department would like to speak with anyone who may have been in the area during the time of the incident, including the occupants of the vehicle observed by the victim.

The offender was described as wearing a dark leather jacket with gloves, approximately 5 foot 8 inches tall, medium build and unknown race.  Unfortunately, the victim could not provide any additional identifying information.

Fortunately, the victim was not injured in the incident.
