Armed Robbery

On January 03, 2010, University of Illinois Police arrested Kristopher Grant, 18 years old of Champaign, at 8:29 p.m. at Third and Chalmers streets on charges of aggravated robbery.  Grant was apprehended after officers focusing their patrols on the recent robberies made an investigative stop of the vehicle in which Grant and others were riding.  Subsequent investigative efforts produced evidence and/or statements leading to Grant’s arrest for this crime.

The Champaign Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred on December 28, 2009 at approximately 8:15 pm at the corner of Sixth Street and Stoughton Avenue, Champaign. (map)

The victim was walking on the sidewalk after using an ATM at the corner of Sixth Street and Green Street, Champaign. An individual approached the victim and demanded the money withdrawn from the ATM. The offender was holding a long blunt object covered with a cloth. The offender took the victim’s property and told the victim to leave the area. The victim departed the area without further incident.

The offender was described as thin male in his twenties, 5’ 0” tall, wearing a hat, sweater and gloves. The offender also had his face covered with a dark cloth item.

The victim was not injured in the incident.
