UI benefactor and alumnus Jack Richmond dies at 93
UI benefactor and alumnus Jack Commodore Richmond, 93, of Champaign, a longtime businessman and philanthropist, died at 10:18 a.m. Sunday (April 17, 2011) at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Jack Commodore Richmond was born on Sept. 16, 1917, in Champaign, to Arthur Dean and Mildred Hummel Richmond. He married his loving wife, Marjorie Laird, on Nov. 14, 1988, in Champaign. She survives.
Jack Richmond's parents encouraged him to attend the University of Illinois to study law rather than agriculture. At Illinois, he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and was active in sports. Ultimately, he graduated in 1943 with a bachelor's degree in agriculture.
