The Investigative News Network (INN), co-founded by Brant Houston, Knight Chair for Investigative and Enterprise Journalism, has been selected to receive the 2011 Manship Prize. The prize, sponsored by the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication and the school’s Board of Visitors, is awarded to mass communication professionals whose innovative work in or through media has advanced citizens’ better understanding of and response to challenges in the public arena. The nonprofit INN, founded two years ago, was created as a new model for investigative and public service journalism in a new media environment. It encourages and supports collaborative content projects, helping to expand the audience for quality watchdog journalism through its own website, through members and as stories are picked up and used by mainstream, non-member media.
