Journalism Career Night
Journalism Career Night, brought to you by the Department of Journalism is coming up Thursday, February 23, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Levis Center. Nine journalism alumni will be coming to campus to speak with College of Media students about their careers in the worlds of both traditional and new journalism. This will be an incredible opportunity to network and talk with veterans in the fields where you hope to work after graduation. Our distinguished panelists will discuss breaking into the job market, what to put on a cover letter and resume and thriving in the many fields where your journalism skills are in demand. There will also be an opportunity to meet with these individuals one on one. All this and refreshments too! Dress for the event is business casual.

Moderator: Justin Breen ’99
Assistant Managing Editor, The Times of Northwest Indiana
Breen recently finished a one-month stint as the interim editor at the Rapid City (S.D.) Journal, where he oversaw a 35-person newsroom. In 2011, Breen was selected as one of the nation’s “25 Under 35” publishing leaders by Editor & Publisher magazine.
Gail Fischer ’91 Media Studies
Sports Anchor/Reporter Comcast SportsNet Chicago
Fischer is a Chicago sports broadcasting veteran who currently hosts the weekend edition of Sportsnet Central on Comcast SportsNet. She also serves as the Bulls sideline reporter and Cubs beat reporter for the station.

Quraishi is an Emmy Award-winning television journalist, writer, photographer and filmmaker with more than a decade of international, investigative and long-form reporting experience.

Biasco is the night patrol reporter at the Daily Herald covering the police beat for the entire coverage area, but also any news that breaks news after about 5:30 p.m.
Alissa Groeninger ‘11 JOURN

Groeninger graduated with a degree in News-Editorial Journalism. She currently interns out of the Illinois Statehouse for the Chicago Tribune. Groeninger is pursuing a master’s degree in Public Affairs Reporting at the University of Illinois at Springfield.
