James Scholars Visit Chicago

4/11/2012  8:00 am

On Friday, March 16th, 10 freshmen participating in the College of Media’s James Scholar program had the opportunity to visit with either Energy BBDO or the Chicago Tribune/WGN as part of a career immersion day.  The top 20% of each incoming freshman class is invited to become a Media James Scholar and students in the program were asked to submit an application last fall in order to be accepted into the spring Chicago trip.

Students who visited Energy BBDO were assigned to a staff member and spent the day learning what a typical day in either a creative or account planning office would be like.  The students who met with Energy BBDO were Jessica Skogh, Sangha Park, Jenna Liu, and Elizabeth Dunne.

The students who took part in the journalism portion of the day met with several Illinois Alums from the Red Eye and the Chicago Tribune and then received a tour of the Tribune and WGN by College of Media alumnae, Andrea Darlas.  The students even visited the WGN radio booth while John Williams was on air.  Students who visited the Chicago Tribune were Sari Lesk, Stephany Guerrero, Kirsten Keller, Emma Weissmann, Molly Nagle, and Lauren Cox.
