In partnership with the American Advertising Federation, the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising recently hosted the second annual AdCamp Chicago in downtown Chicago from June 18–29, 2012.
AdCamp is a unique opportunity for high school students (10th – 12th graders) to explore the advertising industry and the variety of exciting careers it has to offer. University of Illinois advertising faculty led classroom lectures at Leo Burnett and the Illini Center. Corporate sponsors and partners including Leo Burnett, Draftfcb, Omnicom Group, and others hosted industry immersion activities and lectures. Digitas, Spark Communications, Accuen, and Hearst Publishing also hosted corporate shadowing opportunities for the students.
Students were assigned a client – either Motorola or Sprite – and developed campaign ideas that they presented to upper level client representatives on the last day of camp. The clients were quite happy with the results, and gave the students great feedback and advice just before the graduation ceremony.
