Public Relations Society of America Approves College of Media Student Chapter

The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) approved at its December board meeting the College of Media’s application for a student chapter of the organization.

"We are thrilled to have been accepted as a PRSSA chapter, and to become part of a nationally recognized public relations organization," commented Katie Bates, founding president of the new PRSSA chapter. "In the past we have operated as a registered student organization (RSO) and have been able to equip our members with significant real-life experience; becoming a chapter of PRSSA has not only strengthened the quality of the education our members receive, but granted us access to incredible professional tools, national competitions and networking opportunities. More than anything, though, this transition has allowed us to solidify our presence as Illinois' sole student PR organization, and continue to provide students pursuing careers in PR with an outlet through which to exercise their vocation."

The PRSA is a 21,000-member organization of public relations practitioners and academics, and its student affiliate is the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).

The PRSSA consists of more than 300 college and university chapters with 10,000 student members. The PRSSA sponsors regional and national conferences for students interested in the practice of public relations. The PRSSA also participates in the Bateman Case Study Competition, a national contest in which student teams create and implement a public relations plan for a nonprofit client

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign PRSSA chapter is a registered student organization and is open to all university undergraduate students.
