PRSSA Chapter Sponsors Chicago Networking Trip

4/3/2013  8:00 am

The Illinois chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) sponsored a networking trip to Chicago on Friday, March 29. Fourteen PRSSA members visited the public relations departments of the Chicago Bulls and The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, as well as Zeno Group, a mid-sized PR agency based in Chicago.

“It was an excellent opportunity for us to see a number of facets of the public relations process,” said Katie Bates, senior advertising major and PRSSA president. “It was interesting to see how the perspective changed from the Bulls to a large nonprofit to an agency.”

Highlights of the trip included a tour of the United Center and presentations with members of the Bulls corporate communication and PR staffs, a presentation on nonprofit and in-house PR from the MCA staff, and a Q&A with three interns working at the Zeno Group.

The PRSSA chapter was established in January as a registered student organization at UI-UC. Its mission is to expose students to the public relations field and to prepare them for careers in public relations.
