Broadcast Students Win Awards at INBA Conference

U of I broadcast students have won 13 awards (seven first places and six second places) in this year's Students in Illinois News Broadcasters Association (SINBA) Awards. The awards were announced and presented at the annual INBA spring conference.

 

The honorees:

1ST PLACE:

TV VIDEOGRAPHY: Stephen Rossi

HARD TV PROGRAM: Illinois Travels to Turkey, produced by Caroline Pahl along with Nancy Benson's international reporting class

RADIO SPORTS REPORTING: Max Tane

RADIO NEWSCAST: UI-7 News

RADIO NEWS REPORTING: Angela Boesche

RADIO USE OF SOUND: Angela Boesche

RADIO SOFT PROGRAM: Illini Drive, produced and hosted by Max Tane and others for the Daily Illini/WPGU

 

2ND PLACE:

TV SPORTS REPORTING: Heather Pink

TV NEWSCAST: UI-7 News, led by producer Isabel Morales

TV SOFT PROGRAM: Masters of Music, produced by Katie McGarrigle and Taylor Smith

RADIO SPORTS REPORTING: Torrence Sorrell

RADIO NEWS REPORTING: Nora Johnson

RADIO USE OF SOUND: Nora Johnson

 

In addition, two broadcast students have been awarded paid summer internships through the Multicultural Internship Program of the Illinois Broadcasters Association (an organization separate from INBA):

Alexis Rosado, interning at NBC/Telemundo in Chicago

Samantha Chatman, interning on "Windy City Live" at WLS-TV in Chicago

U of I students have been winning these internships in competition with students from other state universities since the program's inception more than 20 years ago. One of the early recipients was Ryan Baker, this year's College of Media commencement speaker.
