Thulin Scholars Named for Spring 2012

The Global Studies program is pleased to announce the recipients of the Spring 2012 Thulin Scholarship:

Daniel Amador - Internships in Francophone Europe - Paris, France
In Woo Jung - Minnesota Studies in International Development - Nairobi, Kenya

Daniel Amador will pursue an internship at the Human Rights League in Paris, France during his semester abroad. He is working with Illinois faculty to earn credit for his studies related to the internship. In the past, Daniel participated in the Ronald E. McNair Summer Research Scholars Program. He is currently a member of the Global Studies Leaders. Daniel is looking forward to learning about the world through the French perspective.

In Woo Jung will intern with an organization in Kenya that will allow him to focus on his interests in sustainable development. He hopes to also explore research interests related to a distinction project. In Woo is also working with the support of faculty at Illinois. In Woo has participated in internships at the Minestry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Korea as well as the Organization of American States. These experiences have helped him realize the importance of field work to complement academic studies.
