Dr. Adam Becker, Executive Director of the Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC) is the featured keynote speaker at the Transdisciplinary Approach to Childhood Obesity Innovation Summit Workshop being held at the Family Resiliency Center on Friday, Feb 4, 2011.  The purpose of the workshop is to advance transdisciplinary education, research and community programming in the Central Illinois region to reduce the incidence of childhood obesity and promote healthy eating and active living for all families.

This workshop is one of many that are taking place across the campus of the University of Illinois during the months of February and March, which cover a wide-range of interdisciplinary topics and challenges.  The information gathered from these workshops will be presented and discussed at a campus-wide Innovation Summit:  Building Bridges to Interdisciplinary Learning at Illinois/Integrating Education and Research, which is being held in April.

Participants at the workshop, which include University of Illinois administration, faculty, staff, students, and community organization representatives will be working to create a dynamic registry of current activities related to obesity studies and health promotion; provide recommendations for removing barriers to working more effectively across education, research, and community programming; and identify next steps to creating an Illinois Signature to reduce childhood obesity and promote healthy eating and active living for all families.

From these discussions at the Summit, concrete proposals will be made and initiated which will assist in making Illinois a leader in interdisciplinary education and research. For more information on the workshops or Summit visit:  http://summit.research.illinois.edu/
