Visiting Research Recruitment Coordinator, Family Resiliency Center
The Visiting Research Recruitment Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all recruitment efforts for a study of the effectiveness of an electronically delivered parenting education program.
The position is a temporary Academic Professional position, 50%, 9 month. Renewal is subject to continuation of funding. Position may develop into 100% or move to permanent if funds become available depending on the needs of the department.
Available: January 1, 2012.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in child development, sociology, education, social work, or related field. Training and experience in facilitating and conducting parenting education programs for low-income or teen parents or training for child care professionals. Previous experience in establishing collaborations with higher education, schools, medical centers, or human service agencies that serve parents in rural areas. Candidates must undergo training and receive certification in human subjects research ethics through the University of Illinois Institutional Review Board.
Preferred: Candidate should be familiar with federal and state funded programs, agencies, and organizations that serve parents with infants and young children in Southern Illinois. Knowledge of or previous experience with using age-paced parenting newsletters with low-income parents. Experience working with research projects.
Duties: Collaborate with agencies and organizations that serve children and parents in Southern Illinois to coordinate the recruiting efforts for the study. Develop strategies for establishing and maintaining a research partnership, which includes (a) explaining the purpose of the study and the research protocol to agency directors, administrative staff, and/or front line staff via group presentations, group meetings, or individual meetings, (b) establishing a system for tracking recruitment efforts by partnering agencies, and (c) keeping agencies informed about the progress of the study. Develop and deliver training for agency staff that will be assisting with recruitment efforts. Work with project staff to develop recruitment materials. Recruit and screen potential research participants for eligibility requirements and coordinate distribution of surveys in Southern Illinois. Answer queries from agency partners and parents regarding the research study, and the electronically delivered parenting program. Deliver presentations about the research project and findings to agencies and organizations. Prepare and conduct research-based training workshops on parenting topics for participating agencies and organizations. Meet regularly with the Principle Investigator and project staff. Travel within Franklin, Jackson, Jefferson and Wayne Counties in Illinois, as well as occasional travel to Urbana Campus required. Personal transportation required (travel reimbursements at the approved rate for the University of Illinois will be provided).
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
