FRC Director Dr. Barbara Fiese Presenting at APA 120th Annual Convention
Dr. Barbara Fiese will be presenting "Genes, Gossip,and Groceries: A contextual risk approach to childhood obesity" at an expert panel at the 120th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association. Her talk will report on findings from the STRONG Kids program, a panel study of 497 families with preschool age children that takes a socio-ecological approach to predicting unhealthy weight gain. Dr. Fiese will discuss unhelathy weight gain and the relationship between eating fruits and vegetables and fast food based on genetic risk, mealtime routines, and access to healthy food in one's neighborhood.
The panel, which will be introduced by APA President Dr. Suzanne Bennett Johnson, will also include panel presenters Dr. Monica Mitchell, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center; Dr. Maureen Black, University of Maryland Medical Center; Dr. Tami Jollie-Trottier, Indian Health Service; and Dr. David Janicke, University of Florida, Gainesville.
