The Department of French and Italian and the University Library are pleased to announce the creation of the Proust21 Consortium for Digital Humanities and French Literary Studies. This research consortium brings together the Institut des textes et manuscrits modernes (Centre national de la recherche scientifique/École normale supérieure, Paris), the Université Grenoble Alpes, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A first project by this consortium, “Marcel Proust’s World War I Letters: A Digital Edition,” has just been awarded major funding by the Centers of Excellence of the French Embassy in the USA and the Mission du Centenaire (WWI Centennial Commission, France). The consortium’s research team will edit, digitize and annotate nearly 300 letters by or to Marcel Proust related to World War I, making them publicly available on an open-access website. Graduate students enrolled in French 578: Marcel Proust (Fall 2017) will contribute to this project.
