Marina Terkourafi, Associate Professor of Linguistics, has been named Co Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pragmatics, an interdisciplinary journal of language studies. She will be taking on her new role in January 2017.

Since 1977, the Journal of Pragmatics has addressed a number of questions that are essential to the understanding of how language works in communicative and social interaction, and continues to welcome innovative pragmatic scholarship from all perspectives. The journal provides a forum for studies that approach relevant issues in general linguistics, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, conversation analysis, cognitive linguistics, corpus linguistics, and other areas of linguistic research with a distinctly pragmatic agenda.

Professor Terkourafi is a sociolinguist and pragmatician interested in the unspoken meanings people communicate through language and how they help shape our social world. She has edited two books: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Im/politeness (2015) and The Languages of Global Hip Hop (2010).
