GWS congratulates Rachel Christie on receiving the Jean Alice Scharre Thompson Scholarship for 2017.  The $1500 Scholarship is awarded annually to a GWS major based on GPA and campus  activism and/or social justice work.

Rachel Christie is a double major in Gender and Women's Studies and Political Science, and a James Scholar.  She is active in a number of campus and community organizations, including the Women's Resource Center,  Students Against Sexual Assault (SASA), and Rape, Advocacy, Counseling and Education Services (R.A.C.E.S.), and the League of Women Voters.  She is an experienced FYCARE facilitator and the first ever ICARE Coordinator Intern, and is on the Executive Board for Tunnel of Oppression.  She also works as a Multicultural Advocate for University Housing, and serves as the staff advisor for Allen Hall's LGBTQ+ club, Q, as well as the Body Positivity Club.  In these positions, Rachel says she is fortunate to be able to apply what she's learned in her Gender and Women's Studies courses and to share her knowledge, as an intersectional feminist, with other students.
