The Holi holiday native to India has become a spring celebration of colors all around the world. Here on the Illinois campus, a diverse group of students participates in traditional activities like smearing colored powder on each others' faces, throwing colored water at each other, having parties, and dancing.

Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences New Student Field Day was October 13. Despite a cloudy, damp morning, approximately 50 students and 20 faculty members, graduate assistants, and staff visited Allerton Park and Retreat Center.

The student group, Uniting Illini, offers a "direct approach to finding success. Large scale solutions, communication development and project managing. We offer students a direct way to change their campus." They recently met on the Main Quad.

Illini Service Dogs, a campus student organization in which students foster and train service dogs, celebrated National Service Dog Month in September. The trained dogs are provided to individuals with disabilities free of charge.

July 10, 2012- Students celebrate after climbing a glacier in Longyearbyen, Svalbard. The group traveled to Svalbard as part of the Arctic Climate Change course offered by the University of Illinois and Sweden's Royal Institute of Technology.

The National Great Rivers Research and Education Center has 26 summer interns throughout the states of Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri. This is the tenth year for the summer internship program at the Jerry Costello Confluence Field Station, situated along the banks of the Mississippi River in East Alton.

Tolu Taiwa, a student journalist who traveled to Istanbul with Professor Nancy Benson, filed this International Herald Tribune story about the reaction her dark skin elicits. "A little boy on the street stopped to stare at me for two full minutes. I tried to engage in a conversation about his bike with him, but he wasn’t having it."

After graduating with Bronze Tablet honors, Suerfu visits with physics professor George Gollin. Suerfu and Gollin worked closely in the High Energy Physics group and in collaboration with scientists at Fermilab. Suerfu will be pursuing graduate studies in particle physics at Princeton University.

Muhammad Ismaeel Iftikhar attended his father's graduation ceremony. Iftikhar Nagra says he was happy to have his wife and kids in attendance, but he missed his mother greatly. "I wish she was here to join us in the ceremony."

The Haiti Clean Stove Project boils water for ramen and grills hot dogs on the Bardeen Engineering Quad for Engineering Open House. The Clean Stove Project aims to reduce health hazards and environmental damage caused by open fire cooking, and provide a supplemental source of income to the people of Haiti. The by-product of cooking with the Clean Stove is high-grade charcoal.

Campus firefighters demonstrate a dorm room fire to onlookers old and young on the Bardeen Engineering Quad during Engineering Open House. At the peak of the fire's development, temperatures in the room reach a scorching 1200 degrees Celsius, unbearable for even the bravest firefighters. Engineering Open House is an entirely student organized event that attracts thousands of visitors from across the country each year.

Some of the students who participated in the iHelp project during Homecoming 2011 went to Dr. Howard Elementary School in Champaign, where they repainted a map of the U.S. on the playground. The 2012 Homecoming at Illinois will be the week of October 22.

Students in the Global Studies 298 Winter Abroad course visited San Francisco Libre, Nicaragua, where they demonstrated and delivered solar ovens. Made of cardboard boxes and glass tops, solar ovens are an environmentally friendly alternative to wood burning stoves. Thanks for the pic, Jasmine Morgan.
