Stephanie Pisano was a freshman when she took this picture (2009-2010 school year). It was her first football game and "I didn't know how seating worked. I had the worst seat possible: top row, under the roof..." But it did give her a great vantage point to take this cool pic of the Marching Illini.

Ed Zagorski is celebrating his 90th birthday with former students and friends who will come to campus this weekend (September 24, 2011) from across the United States to honor the "inspirational teacher who personifies joy in learning." Professor Zagorski taught Industrial Design in the School of Art + Design between 1951 and 1988. His statue is located inside the Link Gallery.

The Illini 4000 for Cancer, an Illinois student organization and 501c3 non-profit, are shown here about to cross the Golden Gate Bridge July 31, 2011. This was the end of a 70 day journey that began in New York's Central Park. Along the way, they raised more than $120,000 for the American Cancer Society and Camp Kesem.

New students were welcomed to campus August 19 with a Convocation and a picnic at Memorial Stadium. They also formed a human Block I to express their Illini pride.

Named for the smell of rotting flesh they emit, fewer than 100 corpse flowers have bloomed in cultivation in the U.S. since the first titan arum unfurled at the New York Botanical Gardens in 1937. Ours is expected to bloom around July 14 - 15.

Illinois' entry in the Solar Decathlon is beginning to take shape. About a dozen students are spending the summer completing the home's construction in time for the Solar Decathlon competition in Washington, D.C. this September.

These alumni of Tsinghua University formed a "100" on the Quad in celebration of the 100th anniversary of their Alma Mater. Tsinghua is one of China's most prestigious institution and is a longtime parter with Illinois. About 120 current Illinois grad students are alumni of Tsinghua.

No, Intro to Energy Sources. Professor David Ruzic, who waded in, writes: "The lecture was on small-scale hydropower, and what better way to teach it than to dam up the Boneyard creek. We measured that we could get a whole 100W of electricity from it. I dont think a dam is in the green energy plan for campus - or at least it shouldnt be!"

This year's winner in the School of Chemical Sciences annual visualization contest is Tom Bassett who, with help from other members of Professor Paul Kenis's research group, used a scanning electron microscope to capture gold nanoparticles on an aluminum filter. The microscope is reflected in the center of the image.

Illini Dancesport Team represented Illinois at the Irish Dancesport Gala Dance Competition held by Notre Dame University on March 26. All Illini Dancesport couples placed with high points, including first and second places places in Silver International Latin and Bronze International Standard dances.

Working across the street from Wednesday's (March 23, 2011) fire, Cheryl Harris was able to get this shot of damage to the roof of the building at 625 to 629 E. Green in campustown - and why officials now say the third floor of that building has to be demolished.

Champaign and Urbana firefighters had the blaze on 625 to 629 East Green Street nearly under control by 10 a.m., but crews were still cleaning up at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday, March 23, 2011). Fire details, images, and video can be seen at the Champaign News-Gazette website. Thanks to all of the emergency responders!

Champaign and Urbana firefighters responded to a fire in businesses along the south side of Green Street, between Sixth and Wright Streets, this morning (Wednesday, March 23, 2011). Local news reports said smoke was billowing from the building at 625-629 E. Green, which is the site of Zorbas and Mia Zas restaurants and the Pitaya clothing boutique.

Illinois is working with Barrington (Ill.) School District 220 as it develops a K-5 complement to its existing Mandarin Chinese language program. The program is being funded by a $1.5 million Foreign Language Assistance Program (FLAP) grant, announced by Senator Dick Durbin in a ceremony held in Barrington on Feb. 25.

When Iftikhar Nagra's son, Muhammad, joined his dad at Illinois last summer, he had never been sledding. On sunny February 15, the doctoral student and his son spent time on the hill near Orchard Downs. Obviously, Muhammad very much likes sledding!

Arica Inglis and Shawn Adderly pose next to their senior design project in the Senior Design Lab in Everitt Lab. Arica and Shawn built a four point and hot point probe for the ECE undergraduate IC Fabrication lab. The project won the department research award, given to the project that contributes the most to research at the University.
