    A U. of I. employee reported that someone had damaged an entry door overnight Thursday at Altgeld Hall, 1409 W. Green St., Urbana. The estimated cost to repair the damage is $250.

    Jason C. Starks, 33, of Urbana, was arrested at 4:25 a.m. Thursday near Florida and Lincoln avenues, Urbana, for an outstanding Mahomet, Illinois, warrant for failure to appear in court. Starks’ vehicle initially was stopped because he was speeding.

    Two U. of I. contractors reported that various tools had been stolen from their job site trailers between Feb. 10-13 near St. Mary’s Road and Goodwin Avenue, Urbana. Someone had cut the locks on both trailers. The total value of the stolen items is estimated to be $13,000 from the first trailer and $2,300 from the second. A third trailer was damaged in an apparent break-in attempt.

    At 5:55 p.m. Tuesday at the Illini Union Bookstore, 809 S. Wright St., Champaign, Katie T. Huynh, 18, of Champaign, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for retail theft. Store security personnel called police after seeing Huynh attempt to leave the store without paying for books and other school supplies with a total retail value of $599.

    At 6:06 p.m. Tuesday at the Illini Union Bookstore, 809 S. Wright St., Champaign, U. of I. student Alice Lee, 21, of Champaign, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for retail theft. Store security personnel called police after seeing Lee attempt to leave the store without paying for greeting cards with a total retail value of $16.24.

    A radio with an estimated value between $4,000 and $6,000 was reported missing or stolen around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 2100 block of South First Street, Champaign. It was reported that the radio fell out of the back of a moving truck, but it could not be found after it went missing.

    A U. of I. student reported that his cellphone, wallet and clothes had been stolen around 9 p.m. Monday from a locked locker at the Activities and Recreation Center, 201 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign. The items have a total estimated value of $1,200. The student’s debit card was later used without permission for two transactions totaling $212.

    At 9:46 p.m. Friday at Allen Hall, 1005 W. Gregory Drive, Urbana, two U. of I. students reported that cash had been stolen from their wallets between Jan. 31 and Feb. 9. It is believed the cash was stolen while the wallets were left unattended in a residence hall room.

    At 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Saunders Hall, 902 College Court, Urbana, a U. of I. student reported that someone had made unauthorized charges to his credit card and had accessed his account for an auction website. The total amount of the unauthorized charges is unknown.

    At 7:35 p.m. Thursday at the Illini Union Bookstore, 809 S. Wright St., Champaign, U. of I. student Jacky Zhao, 19, of Champaign, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for retail theft. Store security personnel called police after seeing Zhao attempt to leave the store without paying for a textbook with a retail value of $89.50.

    At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of South Fifth Street, Champaign, a U. of I. student reported that someone had made multiple unauthorized charges totaling $515 to his bank account beginning on Jan. 23.

    Jimmie L. Wells, 58, of Champaign, was arrested at 6:19 p.m. Wednesday near University Avenue and Sixth Street, Champaign, for an outstanding Champaign County warrant for a parole violation. A police officer recognized Wells and was aware of the warrant.

    Derise A. James, 25, of Champaign, was arrested at 9:57 p.m. Tuesday near Nevada Street and Goodwin Avenue, Urbana, for an outstanding city of Champaign warrant for failure to appear in court. Police were initially called to check on James, who had expressed to a passer-by that she wanted to be admitted to a hospital.

    At 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Illini Union Bookstore, 809 S. Wright St., Champaign, U. of I. student Chidera A. Ezenekwe, 19, of Urbana, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for retail theft. Store security personnel called police after seeing Ezenekwe attempt to leave the store without paying for a textbook with a retail value of $48.

    A U. of I. student reported that his laptop computer had been stolen between 2-9 a.m. Sunday from Trelease Hall, 901 College Court, Urbana. The computer, which has an estimated value of $700, was stolen while the student slept in his unlocked room.

    Pongi H.M. Peden, 25, of Thomasboro, Illinois, was arrested at 2:04 a.m. Saturday near Third and Green streets, Champaign, for an outstanding city of Champaign warrant for failure to appear in court. Police were called to respond to a fight in which Peden was involved.

    At 9:28 a.m. Friday at the U. of I. Public Safety Building, 1110 W. Springfield Ave., Urbana, a U. of I. graduate student reported having received unwanted emails and a visit from a student previously enrolled in a class instructed by the graduate student. The student was contacted and directed to have no further contact.

    At 8:08 p.m. Thursday, a man reported his van had been stolen sometime between Monday and Thursday from a parking lot in the 2000 block of South First Street, Champaign. Shortly after the report, the van, which has an estimated value of $2,000, was discovered abandoned in Sumner, Illinois.

    At 4:45 p.m. Thursday at the Illini Union Bookstore, 809 S. Wright St., Champaign, U. of I. student Reyna Lee, 18, of Champaign, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for retail theft. Store security personnel called police after seeing Lee attempt to leave the store without paying for a T-shirt with a retail value of $10.89

    A U. of I. contractor reported that a job trailer had been stolen between Jan. 28-30 from a parking lot next to the Illinois State Water Survey building, 2204 Griffith Drive, Champaign. The trailer and its contents have a total estimated value of $7,000.

    A U. of I. student reported that his wallet had been stolen around 7:25 p.m. Tuesday at the Activities and Recreation Center, 201 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign. The wallet, which contained identification and bank cards, was left unattended near a basketball court.

    A U. of I. student reported that her backpack containing a laptop computer and other items had been stolen around 10 p.m. Thursday from Campus Recreation Center East, 1102 W. Gregory Drive, Urbana. The backpack and its contents, which have a total estimated value of $1,270, were left in an unsecured locker.

    At 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, Gwan U. Park, 23, of Champaign, was issued a notice to appear in court for retail theft. Park left the Illini Union Bookstore, 809 S. Wright St., Champaign, without paying for a course packet valued at $36. Park also was issued a no-trespass letter banning him from the store.

    A locker in the men's locker room at Campus Recreation Center East, 1102 W. Gregory Drive, Urbana, was burglarized between 10-11:30 p.m. Thursday. The victim reported that $17 and a combination lock valued at $5 were stolen.

    At 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Joshawn A. Hill, 18, of Urbana, was arrested on charges of retail theft, resisting/obstructing a police officer and aggravated battery. Hill left the Illini Union Bookstore, 809 S. Wright St., Champaign, without paying for a textbook valued at $39. When the bookstore’s loss prevention officer stopped Hill in the parking lot, Hill shoved the officer and fled. Hill was later arrested near Morrill Hall, 505 S. Goodwin Ave., Urbana.

    Geno R. Lewis, 21, of Champaign was issued a state notice to appear in court on a charge of disorderly conduct at 11:34 a.m. Tuesday after Lewis and a woman attempted to board an MTD bus in front of the Illini Union, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana, without paying the woman’s fare. The driver reported that Lewis threatened him after he confiscated Lewis’s student ID.

    At 1:56 p.m. Monday, Dong G. Ryu, 19, of Urbana, was issued a notice to appear in court for retail theft after he was seen leaving the Illini Union Bookstore, 809 S. Wright St., Champaign, without paying for a textbook and other merchandise. The total value of the items was $173. Ryu also was issued a no-trespass letter banning him from the bookstore.

    A U. of I. student reported a backpack was stolen from an unsecured locker in the Activities and Recreation Center, 201 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign, sometime between 8:51 and 9:57 p.m. Tuesday. The backpack and its contents – including a laptop computer and charger, Social Security card and passport – were valued at more than $1,100.  

    An estimated $2,000 in damage was caused to a vehicle parked in a university parking lot at the southwest corner of Daniel and Fifth streets in Champaign between Jan. 15 and Jan. 17. The driver had discovered a large dent in the hood when returning to the vehicle. The incident was reported Monday

    At 2:12 a.m. Saturday, U. of I. student Logan A. Douglas, 22, of Monmouth, Illinois, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Douglas' vehicle had collided with a streetlight in the 1100 block of South Lincoln Avenue, Urbana.

    At 1:03 a.m. Sunday near the corner of Sixth and Daniel streets, Champaign, Illinois State University student Brendan Michael Ferguson, 20, of Chicago, was issued a state notice to appear in court for resisting a police officer.

    Parkland College student James C. Allen, 19, of Dolton, Illinois, was arrested at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Activities and Recreation Center, 201 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign, on a charge of domestic battery.

    A wallet containing cash, debit and credit cards was stolen between 6-9 p.m. Friday from an unattended bag at Grainger Engineering Library, 1301 W. Springfield Ave., Urbana.

    A U. of I. employee reported that a university-owned laptop computer had been stolen around 2:30 p.m. Jan. 9 at Busey-Evans residence halls, 1111 W. Nevada St., Urbana. The computer, which has an estimated value of $1,384.48, was left unattended in a public area.

    Bradley N. Obeirne, 40, no address provided, was arrested at 6:04 p.m. Monday near First and Green streets, Champaign, for an outstanding Champaign County warrant for failure to appear in court. A police officer recognized Obeirne and was aware of the warrant.

    Justin M. Garbutt, 24, of Urbana, was arrested at 5:14 p.m. Monday near First Street and Springfield Avenue, Champaign, for an outstanding city of Champaign warrant for failure to appear in court. A police officer recognized Garbutt and was aware of the warrant.

    A U. of I. student reported that her bicycle had been stolen in December or January from Lincoln Avenue Residence Hall, 1005 S. Lincoln Ave., Urbana. The bicycle, which has an estimated value of $200, was locked to a rack.

    A man reported that identification cards had been stolen from his vehicle between midnight Saturday and 10:20 a.m. Sunday in the 2000 block of South Orchard Street, Urbana. The vehicle was unlocked in a parking lot.

    A woman reported that her laptop computer, which has an estimated value of $1,350, had been stolen Friday or Saturday from a hotel room at the Illini Union, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana.

    At 10 a.m. Monday at TechZone inside the Illini Union, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana, a store manager reported that someone had purchased electronics totaling $1,480.11 with a fraudulent credit card. Store employees were notified of the fraudulent purchase after the transaction was completed Dec. 16.

    Cierra M. Lewis, 22, of Champaign, was arrested at 6:04 p.m. Friday near Green and Second streets, Champaign, for possession of a controlled substance. A police officer stopped to assist Lewis, whose vehicle had become disabled in the roadway. Officers smelled an odor of cannabis emanating from the vehicle. Officers found amphetamine pills without a prescription in Lewis’ pocket after she consented to a search.

    At 8:14 p.m. Wednesday near Neil Street and Kirby Avenue, Champaign, a police officer attempted to stop a suspected stolen vehicle after the driver made an illegal turn. The vehicle fled from the stop at a high rate of speed, striking a house in the 1000 block of Pine Street, Champaign. A witness reported that two occupants ran from the vehicle. The stolen vehicle was recovered.
