Brittany Weida was recognized by the Illinois Annual Fund as an outstanding student for her accomplishments in Bioengineering through a scholarship offered by a generous donation from William Kinkead (MechSE, 19020). Brittany recently walked across the stage at graduation but is not slowing down or taking a break from Bioengineering this summer. Brittany, and her fellow teammates from her Senior Design Team, are starting a company and building a device to help those with knee injuries and hope to market the device soon after. Brittany will remain on campus as a PhD student in Bioengineering starting Fall 2012.

Stephen A. Boppart, a Bliss Professor of Engineering with appointments in the departments of electrical and computer engineering, of bioengineering, and of internal medicine at Illinois, has been awarded the Hans Sigrist Prize, an international prize presented annually to a distinguished scientist in a selected field. The 2012 award was competitively selected to honor outstanding research in the field of diagnostic laser medicine.

The Mavis scholarship is awarded to graduate students based on their academic performance, research accomplishments, and interest in engineering education. The Mavis Scholarship is funded through a bequest of Frederic T. and Edith F. Mavis. Dr. Frederic T. Mavis received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering at the University of Illinois. He was dean of engineering at the University of Maryland from 1957 until 1967.

University of Illinois researchers have developed a technique to computationally correct for aberrations in optical tomography, bringing the future of medical imaging into focus.

Freshman, Samir Mishra, is part of Fizaa, a completely student-run, nonprofit organization and competitive Bollywood-Fusion dance team, founded in 2008 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The team is focused on displaying Indian culture through various styles of dance. Fizaa's purpose is to maintain the Indian cultural traditions of dance, music, and drama as well as to create more cultural awareness for fellow students and community.
In addition to competing, Fizaa also does performances You can see them Saturday at Foellinger for Illinois India Night.
