Greg is currently an M.D./Ph.D. student in the Medical Scholars Program where hes pursuing a doctorate in bioengineering. In December 2010, Greg was announced as one of four Engineering students selected as winners of the 10th Annual Roy J. Carver Fellowships in Engineering. Being a Carver Fellow reinforces the notion of excellence, through providing technologies for the benefit of society, says Greg. His current research with Professor Rashid Bashir involves developing a point-of-care HIV diagnostic deviceto be used in global and resource-limited health settingswhich employs microfluidic technology to perform a CD4+ T Cell count and viral load measurement, out in the field. My focus is a career at the intersection of medicine and engineering, and the Carver Fellowship carries with it the responsibility to use ones talent for the betterment of others through innovation, in continuing the legacy of other Fellows.

Asst Prof Sua Myong and her collaborators, Clifford Brangwynne (Princeton) and Christian Eckmann (MPI, Dresden, Germany), have been recognized with a Research Grant from the Human Frontier Science Program in the amount of $300K per year.  Prof Myong's grant is titled RNA Helicases in RNA/protein Body Assembly and Function: a Multi-scale Approach.  Myong describes the project as a "common goal to understand how the molecular activities of RNA helicases play a role in the assembly and biophysical features of nuclear and cytoplasmic RNA/protein (RNP) bodies, and how these structures contribute to the control of diverse RNA regulatory gene expression programs of a developing tissue.  Our multi-scale effort seeks to connect the angstrom level molecular interactions to tissue level phenotype, providing insights into the mechanisms underlying dynamic RNP-mediated RNA regulation."
