Exam 2 scores posted
In Mallard, you now have access to scores on Exam 2, to statistics on Exam 2, and to an estimate of your current letter grade for the course. The estimate is based on the two hour exams and homework so far. See the course syllabus for the full policy on course grades.
Exams will be returned to you on Wednesday, October 21. Students who participate in supervised study sessions may review the exam at the sessions on October 25.
Regrade Policy: To request reconsideration of the grading of one or more problems on the exam, please staple a sheet to the front of the exam, with your name, and write a full explanation and your reasoning; "please regrade" is not sufficient. Regrade requests will be accepted in class on Friday, October 23, and on Monday, October 26; requests after Monday will not be considered. Please write neatly.
Solutions will be posted early next week. Meanwhile, do go to office hours (posted on the Web site) if you have questions about exam problems.

Monday October 19: Exam 2
The second exam is Monday October 19, 7-8:15 pm. Rooms are as follows:
Last Names A-C: Everitt Lab 269
Last Names D-Ke: Everitt Lab 151 (different from exam 1!)
Last Names Kh-Pa: Digital Computer Lab 1320
Last Names Pe-Z: Siebel 1404
The topics covered are from Lectures 9 to 21 (check schedule), homework 7 to 11 (i.e. NOT MUX and NOT Comparators). You will be asked to SHOW YOUR WORK (i.e. all steps you are taking to provide your answer). Answers without work will be graded zero. Check website with past exams solutions to see what it means (examples). This will allow us to give you partial credit if applicable, and allow you to recheck your work before giving your test back.
You are allowed to bring one standard size sheet of personal notes (writing on both sides ok), a palm-size calculator (graphic ok). You must use pencils on your exam. You will be given the Boolean Algebra Identities (no need to write them or to memorize them). You will also be given the decimal/binary/hexadecimal table.
If you have a conflict, we will accommodate you (we can give a make-up after 8:30pm, right after the exam); You must inform Prof. Brunet asap - we need to reserve a room, and if you are registered in DRES and need accommodation, let us know asap. Notify Prof. Brunet by Wed. October 14 at 5 pm.
There are practice exams (actual past exams) in Mallard and others on the ECE 110 website (under Exams). HKN (243 EL) sells past exams packages.
Monday October 19 lecture will be replaced by a (non-mandatory) Q&A session.

RA Deadline 2 IMPORTANT!
By Friday October 9, 5pm, you must have completed two tasks for your project. Both are done using RAMSES. (1) Upload your proposal (see guidelines & grading in RA Handout 2, not to lose points). Include it in your protfolio (Item 4). (2) Do your early team assessment--from each team member; print and include the printouts in your portfolios (Item 3). It is NOT possible to perform this early team assessment after the deadline.

Exam 1 results and Information
You now have access to tests scores, and to statistics for the class (see in Mallard). An estimation of your current letter grade for the class is available too (it includes the hourly exam 1 and the homework you have done so far). This is an estimation of your grade so far (it gives an excellent evaluation as to where you currently stand!). Final grades heavily depend on exams as exams carry a larger standard deviation (unlike many other portion of your grade). See course syllabus for grading policy.
Tests will be given back in class Wednesday 9/23.
Regrade Policy: You will be able to request a regrade (total wrong, points missing or else) in lecture, either Friday 9/25, or Monday 9/28 (deadline)--no regrade request on Wednesday 9/23. If you participate in the SSS, keep your exam until then, since time will be allocated during the session to review parts of the exam. To request reconsideration of grading of Exam 1 problems, please attach a sheet with your reasoning to your exam booklet, and submit it to your instructor. Please write neatly so we can easily read your request. "please regrade" is NOT a legitimate request; you must explain. We thrive to keep consistency among all students: the same amount of points was deducted for the same mistakes, and therefore such mistakes will not be regraded. Please refrain from submitting pages of requests, just because you feel "obliged" to ask for points. Be aware that sometimes a request for regrade could result in points deducted, for fairness, to keep consistency with class.
We plan to post solutions for Exam 1 next week. In the meantime we encourage everyone to go to office hours (posted on website), and ask questions.
